September 2013 ~ Christian Golf Society | Church Golf | National Church Golf Cup in partnership with CVM

New name engraved on the CGS Premier National Church Golf Cup 2013

There is a new name on the CGS Premier National Church Golf Cup, congratulations go to Banners Gate Community Church from Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands. Banners Gate, represented by John Dadd and Paul Evans, beat Molesey Community Church from Surrey, represented by Mark Blythe and Dave Holmes, in the Final held at Banbury in Northamptonshire.

It was a very close Final with Molesey taking an early lead only for scores to be level at the turn. Paul Evans pared the 11th to put Banners Gate in front for the first time and then secured the trophy on the last chipping in from off the green to win the Cup by 3 points.

The Final was played at Cherwell Edge Golf Club on Sunday 8th September and the players enjoyed wind, rain and sunshine during the round! West Midlands Church Golf Cup Winners Captain John Dadd said he was delighted to have their name on the trophy at last. The Surrey Church Golf Cup Winners and Molesey Community Church Captain Mark Blythe said “Paul played particularly well today, especially as he is adjusting to little sleep following the birth of twins earlier this year!” Mark continued “It was really great to play in a competitive match with both teams doing their utmost to win but at all times playing sportingly. We enjoyed a meal together after the match and the company of the winners if not the match result!”

Both teams are eagerly looking forward to the 2014 Competition.
