About the Christian Golf Society

Vision
The Christian Golf Society aims to provide Christian golfers with an opportunity to engage with the golfing community and share their faith in Jesus with friends who are not yet Christians through a common passion for golf.

The Christian Golf Society will seek a commitment from Christians attending their events to PRAY for the people they invite along, to PLAY their golf in a way that reflects their faith and to be ready to SAY something about their faith with gentleness and respect when their playing partners ask about their beliefs.

Sharing Faith
Faith as often described as a walk and what finer walk is there than round a golf course? Often when Christians talk about the journey of faith, they focus and identify with other Christians that they share their walk with.  The Christian Golf Society believe a golf competition is an excellent setting for people to share their faith with non-Christian friends who have a common passion for golf. Reaching out to friends through sport is probably one of the most straightforward opportunities Christians have. The friendships we form with sporting friends are often far stronger than those we make with other people in our day-to-day lives. The truth is that as a Christian in an increasingly faithless world you may be the only bible a person reads as they see how you live your life – or in this instance, how you play your golf.  The Christian Golf Society encourages people to adopt the Christians in Sport approach of pray, play and say. PRAY for your friends who aren't Christians. PLAY your golf in a way that honours God. Be prepared to SAY something about the promise of Christ

History
The Christian Golf society started life in the unassuming surroundings of the Colne Valley Golf Club bar on 1st October 2005, when its founding partners Martin Eady and James Butcher found they shared a vision for holding a county wide golf event in Essex where Christian golfers brought their friends along to play in competition.

This conversation was returned to many times and the Christian Golf Society was founded in February 2007 to create competitive golf opportunities through which Christians with a passion for golf can share the good news of Jesus with their non-Christian friends.

The Christian Golf Society is also a Chapter of the Christian Golf Association.

Christian Vision for Men (CVM)
In 2014-16 we entered an excited partnership with CVM to encourage more churches to run outreach Golf Days.

Premier National Church Cup 2012/13
In 2012/13 we were excited to announce a partnership with Premier Christian Media, we believe this partnership will bring more exposure to these important Golf Days and attract more participants and indeed more regional competitions to be formed. We very much appreciated this partnership, which has now come to an end, as Premier Christian Radio focus on other areas.

More Than Golf LogoMore than Gold
We also whole heartedly support the work of More Than Gold a charity that that helped the churches seize the opportunity presented by the 2012 games.

Statement of Faith
The Christian Golf Society is a non-denominational organisation founded to offer Christians with a passion for golf the opportunity to meet, play in competition with one another and to provide non-threatening opportunities for Christian golfers to share the good news of Jesus.

We believe in the sovereignty of God.

We accept God as our creator and ruler and believe that we were created to live in a relationship with God, which can only be attained through belief in Christ and his resurrection.

We seek to put into practice the love of Christ
We cannot earn God’s forgiveness for our sins – it is given by God’s grace. We believe Jesus Christ’s death on the cross paid the price for our sins.  Therefore in response to this we seek to demonstrate in practical ways the love that Christ describes in the gospels and as expressed in his crucifixion.
Jesus taught (Matthew 22: 37 – 40) “. . . Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. All the law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
We seek a relationship with Christ
We trust and seek God’s guidance on a day-to-day basis through the Bible, prayer and worship.
